Kathy Frosio : KATHY FROSIO is an "Island Impressionist" whose acrylic paintings are energized, fun, and sell so fast we hardly get to keep them in the gallery. She surfs in island countries and finds inspiration in the beach villages there.

Kathy has combined her love of primitive island art's bold, simple designs with raised textures built up with handmade papers and grasscloth samples underneath her paint. Kyle Hunter Goodwin : KYLE HUNTER GOODWIN illuminates the undersea world in his dramatic carved glass and ethereal glass creations. With a deep relationship to the ocean and its waves, the artist's intimate knowledge of his subject lends a mastery to these life-like glass sculptures.

Shaped by the tides on both the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of Florida, Kyle's artistic roots evolved from his lifelong passions for surfing, fishing, sailing and beach culture. "I began drawing sea life as soon as I could hold a pencil," he says. "And while drawing was my initial form of visual expression, my discovery of sandblasted glass in 1994 became my greatest source of inspiration. With its ability to be manipulated in so many exciting ways, glass presents new challenges and possibilities every day." With an innate and driving hunger, Kyle believes there are no rules or boundaries - his artistic mind is free to dream. Constantly employing unique techniques and original hand-drawn designs, he strives to create the most 3D and realistic designs in glass possible.

"My handmade glass waves start as flat glass. First, I create the textures and contours with heavy sandcarving then slowly heat the glass to around 1300 degrees where it reaches a delicate softened state and is bendable. Many waves get a single heating session (which is around 15 hours for heating and cooling) and some get a second round of heating which is how I get the greater pitch of a barreling-type wave.
These are a lot of fun to create because I'm never certain how they'll turn out and, just like in nature, no two waves are ever alike," Kyle says.

Ken Jensen : KEN JENSEN'S artwork features wheel and slab-built pots and wall pieces, strongly influenced by Japanese pottery and tropical fantasy. Ken applies land and seascapes with airbrush stencils and paintbrushes, creating the imagery in glazes and underglazes. Many pieces have motifs of seaturtles, fish, palm trees and bamboo.

Raku firing (fast cooling and smoking) is used to produce crackle effects and copper lusters (his containers are often as beautiful inside as they are on the outside). Raku pieces remain porous and are meant only for dry arrangements or dry foods. Decorative enjoyment is recommended. He also has a line of blue seaturtle and fish ceramic mugs (small and large) meant for drinkable liquids that are dishwasher and microwave-safe.

Ken earned a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Florida in the mid-1970s. He and his family moved to St. Augustine in 1993 and Ken is known throughout Florida for his art festival exposure and award-winning pieces.

Steve Ryder : After being a magician in the Midwest for 42 years, STEVE RYDER set down the magic wand and picked up the paintbrush to pursue a career as a professional artist in St. Augustine, FL.

Steve has been drawing and painting since an early age. In addition to the wonderful whimsical paintings he sells in High Tide Gallery, Steve illustrated the successful "What's In My Pocket?" - a fun kids' book by Todd Key. Steve has two kids himself - Kim and Kyle - and enjoys sailing, fishing, sushi, magic and documentaries. Steve graces our gallery with his beaming smile, high enthusiasm and new feel-good paintings.

Anne C.Thomas : ANNE C.THOMAS is a watercolor painter in the St. Augustine area, after living most of her life in Charleston, SC. Anne loves painting the historic architecture of both cities.

After graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts degree from the College of Charleston, Anne was the Symphony Designer House 1996 Featured Artist for Charleston, as well as the 1989 Artist-In-Residence at the Bethune Art Center, NC.

She now lives with her husband in the community of Palm Coast and keeps busy helping care for their twin grandchildren.

Barbara Green : BARBARA GREEN has always been intrigued by nature, receiving inspiration from the beauty of the ocean and beaches of St. Augustine. She has been collecting shells and fishing here since 1978.

"I love creating my art from the very things I find so lovely," Barbara says. "Almost all of my shells are gathered locally, sometimes while fishing or given to me by friends. I personally sort and clean all pieces for perfection. I hope others will see a little bit of me in all of my shell decor."

Laure Norton : LAURE McCAULEY NORTON is a self-taught mosaic and stained glass artist. She lives near the shore and gets much of her inspiration from the beach and nature.

Proud to be the great grand-niece of French Impressionist Claude Monet and mentored by the late Emmett Fritz, BRENDA PHILIPS has earned recognition in her own right as one of the area's top oil painters.

Prominent on the St. Augustine, FL art scene for almost 30 years, Brenda is just hitting her stride, creating breathtaking clouds, capturing gorgeous water reflections and finding spectrums of color within our marshes. She has gained a following of admirers both locally and internationally with her original paintings, signed giclées and presentation prints.

Brenda feels fortunate that her parents were supportive of her love of painting long before the family learned of the Monet connection through the Giverny estate's attorneys in the 1980s. Jim Macbeth : JIM MACBETH: "My art draws closely from my life experiences as a marine biologist and museum curator, but mostly from my appreciation of nature’s amazing grace. Sometimes I combine living creatures with man-made objects or text in ways that stimulate and provoke the viewer’s imagination. In a sense, I‘m a beachcomber of the digital age - I work with specimens and artifacts that I find in real life, then capture and interpret them with the help of a high-resolution digital scanner and imaging software.

I believe art is something that happens - and you never know what exactly is going to happen until you reach a moment when you see the image in front of you that you have been searching for all along."

Janet Mulligan : JANET MULLIGAN has always been fascinated by glass. As a young girl, she was mesmerized by the crystal chandelier in the movie "Pollyanna" and was awe-inspired by the auras of stained glass windows in church.

Today, Janet pursues her passion for glass through the art of glass fusion; cutting, shaping and melting glass."The possibilities are endless...the opaqueness, hue, shading with glass shards, powders and frit - the effects of all these can be amazingly diverse. Different effects with the glass can be made by varying the speed and intensity of heating the glass in the kiln," Janet says.

Now retired from her career in the school system, Janet gets inspiration from manatees, egrets, alligators, raccoons, osprey, owls, jumping mullet and many other species. She makes time every day to "play with glass."

Michelle Smith : MICHELLE SMITH has been selling her "Bling-A-Ling" jewelry in High Tide Gallery since 2007.

She is a Kindermusik teacher, teaching classes from Jacksonville down to Palm Coast, Florida and enjoys designing necklaces, bracelets and earrings as a second career.

Nancy Hamlin Vogler : NANCY HAMLIN-VOGLER prints her own greeting cards using the traditional silkscreen printing method. Each image is separated into different color areas, then made into a stencil or ‘positive.’ The positive is photographically ‘burned’ onto a prepared screen, and then pulled by hand to deposit the colors onto paper stock, as many times as is required for the desired effect. The result is luminous layers of ink, with a multi-dimensional quality. Each image is thus an original artwork.

Nancy established her art company Eastern Sun Printworks in the late 1980’s, just before she and her husband moved their family to St. Augustine. “I create all my artwork in my backyard studio, one block from the famous Fountain of Youth,” Nancy says. Eastern Sun Printworks has received five LOUIE FINALIST nominations, an honor for such a small company amidst the giants of this industry.

The Hamlin-Voglers still live in the nation's Oldest City, where they enjoy the warmth, history, and inspiration of this small city. Nancy is also known for her large mixed medium figurative and abstract drawings. These works are exhibited both locally and at juried art shows throughout Florida.

Nancy Hamlin Vogler

Hope Barton : It has always been HOPE BARTON'S goal to create etchings and paintings that are technically-proficient with interest and lasting appeal. Her landscapes and water scenes are peaceful reflections of her personal observations of Florida's quiet places.

Hope is known throughout Florida for both her miniature and large multiple-plate etchings and hand-pulled prints.Through the years, her etching process has evolved to include fewer plates and more hand-coloring. Monotypes are used as underpaintings, upon which acrylics, Conte pencil or Caran D'Ache crayons are applied to further enrich the surface.

She has worn many other hats since graduating from Florida Southern College - including wife, mother, grandmother, art teacher, art gallery owner and art juror - but always makes time every day for her creative passions.

Hope participates in Plein Air "paint-outs" around Florida and lives on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, FL with her husband Ed. She is featured in "Picturing Florida" and recently self-published a softcover book of her etchings and paintings titled "Quiet Places."

Trasea Womack : TRASEA WOMACK (Trasea's Glassworks) joined High Tide Gallery in July 2010. With thirty years of experience in working with glass, her artform is called lampwork because the glass is heated and sculpted in a torch flame. Each piece is hand formed from a solid rod of glass which is heated in the flame until molten then shaped into the desired form. Trasea often makes her own colored rods from glass powders and frits - lending her a broad palette and exquisite use of color.

Trasea has spent most of her life by the sea - her love of the ocean shows in her art. She went inland to study Fine Art at the University of Arkansas (specifically painting) and went on to learn the art of flameworking in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Leslie Peebles : Woodcut & Relief Print Artist Leslie Peebles did her undergraduate studies at Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA, where she graduated with a B.A. in Studio Art in 1981.

Leslie then resided in Gainesville, FL, where she raised her family, earned her M.A. in Art Education at The University of Florida and taught art at a fine arts magnate school.

John Pacheco : After serving for 24 years in the US Navy, John Pacheco retired as Master Chief Petty Officer in November 1985.

The next year when John brought a stained glass lampshade to a shop to be repaired, the owner told him that it would be cheaper to take lessons and repair the lamp himself. John took the lessons, then advanced lessons; the mold was set for his future in stained glass crafting.

John's glass work is predominately the "copper foil" technique which allows a window to take on a more narrow line, allowing a better flowing look to the piece. During the past 26 years, John has showcased his stained glass in many local shops throughout the Jacksonville, FL area and did most of the Jacksonville River Walk Art shows during the 1990’s. His recent collection incorporates sea shells, coral, stained glass, and glass nuggets. Many of these sea shells were collected from local Jacksonville, FL beaches.

Ana Rosa : AnaRosa is a delightful artist known for her Pin-Up Girl Art inspired "Glitter Girls" series and lovely images of sparkling mermaids. She finds muse in Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page to create her playful and glamorous paintings and illustrations. Endless summers on Cape Cod give life to her enchanting mermaids who are born off the coast of an afternoon daydream. Recently, AnaRosa created a special mermaid that made its debut in a short British film called 'Tail’s End’. AnaRosa is also known for her colorful pet portraits of which she donates proceeds to pet charities she supports.
