FUSED GLASS & PAINTED SILK
She has worked with custom stained glass and stained glass repairing since 1985, as well as glass fusing since 2008 and fabric painting since 2009.
"There are many techniques used to paint on silk," Deb says. "A scarf can be painted either when it is wet or dry, with or without resists. To paint a design, I stretch a scarf onto a frame. I draw the design with a “fading” pen and then apply resists and paints. I repeat designs but no two are exactly the same." The paints used are made for fabrics and heat set for color fastness. Painted silks are hand-washable.
“I have been strongly influenced by the natural beauty of the area. I have a BS in agriculture from the University of Florida. Although agriculture is no longer my profession, gardening is still a hobby that I enjoy,” she says. Nature and mermaids are common themes in Deb’s glass and silk fabric art.
