Meet Greg Lulkoski, a stone artist whose creative path brings personal experience, thoughtful craft, and a distinctive point of view to each piece.
Greg Lulkoski works in stone – primordial material crafted by time, heat, and pressure to produce the colors, flowing chaos, and sparkle that only nature can achieve. Greg creates functional pieces for home, patio, and garden that retain the rustic, powerful qualities of natural stone. Greg’s creations include charcuterie boards, lazy Susans, card holders, votives, planters, and garden tables. The stone’s grain, randomness, and imperfections are not concealed but honored allowed to speak their own language. Greg uses over forty types of granite, marble, and quartzite, including semi-precious stones such as amethyst, labradorite, and calcite. Each charcuterie board and lazy Susan is food-safe, cut-safe, and burn-safe, meaning the stones can be used for serving and cutting food on, or candles can be safely burned directly on the stone. Stone holds cold naturally; food can be arranged on the surface and when placed in the refrigerator for a few hours – the food will be kept cold when displayed on a party table. Much of Greg’s creative energy now flows into supporting his wife’s artistic practice: painting on natural stone. Married to fellow High Tide Gallery artist Adriana Cabezas Lulkoski, Greg creates stone substrates that become the foundation for her vibrant, expressive work. Painting on stone is a pre-historic artform; Greg’s paint-able stone creations retain ancient rustic qualities as Adriana’s flair adds a contrasting modern touch. A member of the High Tide Gallery for the past six years, Greg believes that art and life continually reflect one another. “Art emulates life,” he says. “Life is rough and chipped around the edges but holds much beauty within – just like my stones.”
