Originally from Long Island, New York, John Schieffer has spent more than 55 years immersed in the world of art. His journey began at age ten, sketching with a 2H pencil and crayons, and truly took flight when he received his first set of acrylic paints at fourteen—a Christmas gift that would shape his creative life.
John’s early career was rooted in commercial illustration, working with advertising agencies in Long Island and New York City. This background gave him a strong foundation in composition, perspective, and storytelling—skills that now inform his fine art practice.
After relocating to the St. Augustine area three years ago to be closer to family, John found new inspiration in the natural landscapes and coastal light of northern Florida. He now devotes himself full-time to painting, often revisiting familiar scenes and reinterpreting them through shifts in light, shading, and color. His work offers a quiet elegance, honoring the beauty in everyday moments and inviting the viewer to slow down and see with fresh eyes.
Though new to the gallery world, John approaches this chapter with enthusiasm and humility. He’s excited to share his art with a wider audience and looks forward to building his voice in the fine arts community.
