Jon Weseman

Jon Weseman is a self taught visual artist who has experimented in multiple mediums. Interested in art since childhood, he took an art history class and spent time drawing sketches and still life in high school. “I experimented during my college years, but encountered difficulty making time to create, especially as an adult,” he says. “So, I focused heavily on photography.” After moving away for a brief period, Jon felt compelled to try his hand at painting with watercolors again upon his return to the Sunshine State back in 2020. “I had experimented with watercolor pencils a bit, but after purchasing professional paint and paper, I found genuine confidence in this medium,” he says. “I have continued to be drawn to watercolors as a form of expression and to recreate the beauty I see all around me.” Inspired by the natural world, Jon paints mainly using his own photography as source material. Motivated by color, form, shadow, and the unexpected in plain sight, much of Jon’s work is based on his travels, life in Florida, and the beauty of the Ancient City. “I take inspiration at random from the world around me,” he says, “whether it be the beach, birds, historical structures, or weather changes.” Broadly explaining his style as, “aiming for loose, but often detailed,” Jon further clarifies, “I aim for bright uplifting colors, but my Goth side isn’t afraid of darks and earthtones either.” A valued member of High Tide Gallery for about two years, Jon graciously looks to the future. “I feel blessed for the opportunities I’ve been given and look forward to our continued partnership.”
