Kim Sander

South Daytona, FL

Mixed Media

Blending nostalgia with bold color and texture, Kim’s work brings the spirit of Florida’s past to life—one brushstroke, scrap, and sunlit memory at a time.

Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Kim Sander has called South Daytona home for more than 50 years. What began as a college relocation blossomed into a deep-rooted connection with Florida’s coastal beauty—one that has shaped her art and life ever since.
Kim’s creative journey began early, inspired by her mother, who was also an artist. That legacy sparked a lifelong passion for visual storytelling and led Kim to a rewarding career as both an artist and an art educator. Over the course of four decades, she has continued to evolve, drawing influence from her students, peers, and the ever-changing natural world around her.
She works in acrylic, oils, and mixed media, often layering reclaimed wood, paper, fabric, or other found materials into her compositions. These elements add a tactile history to her pieces—each one infused with personal narrative and place-based memory. Kim’s mixed media process reflects her belief in honoring the beauty of what already exists and reimagining it with fresh eyes.
Since joining High Tide Gallery in 2021, Kim’s work has become known for its vivid color, nostalgic energy, and celebration of “Old Florida.” Her subjects range from coastal landscapes and rustic roadside scenes to native plants and charming landmarks that hold sentimental meaning. Drawing inspiration from both her surroundings and her travels, Kim captures the rhythms and hues of Florida life with a warmth and familiarity that resonates deeply with viewers.
Whether it’s a weathered pier, a blooming hibiscus, or the textured grain of salvaged wood, each piece reflects Kim’s love for storytelling through art—an ongoing celebration of Florida’s unique culture, character, and beauty.
